Conspiracy Friday: Internet 2 Part 2
In part 1, we reviled that large corporations, governments and educational institutions are the only one who are allowed access to this technology. Because of this they can tightly restrict the content traveling through the fiber optic cable backbone that connects these institutions.
Currently there is a strong push by internet providers to transition their customers to Internet 2 with an implementation target of 2012. At the end of the article I asked the question, “Why are they doing this?” Pushing for restricted control over bandwidth and information. Its all about control. The elite are terrified of the free flow of information because they want to suppress knowledge.
The elite have been control information for thousands of years and until recently they were doing a good job. Major news agencies around the world are owned by an elite group allowing them to spread their propaganda by only covering stories that they deemed worthy enough to further their agenda. When the internet gained popularity and came into the mainstream in the mid 90’s, this created an unprecedented explosion of alternative media that the elite could not control. Website began appearing with content that people dared not talk about only a few years before. Who killed JFK? Did we walk on the moon and UFO’s were some of the topics that could now be openly discussed by people on opposite side of the world. Declassified government documents were being uploaded, people were beginning to make connects and finding information they never could have possibly imagined. Simple BBS discussion boards gave way to websites, communities formed, video and P2P (pear to pear networking) were created, weblogs gave everyone a voice.
Only a few years ago many cities large and small around the world were announcing free internet over Wi-Fi in their downtown areas. Cities spent millions of dollars setting up the infrastructure only to have it shut down a few years later. The elite saw what a mistake opening up the internet to the public was. It allowed for anyone to have a voice. Their own 24/7 video surveillance of the public backfired on them when they found themselves being watched 24/7. Facing a constant stream of criticism by activists searching for answers to questions 20 years ago we could not ask. It became apparent for the men who’s job it was to keep secrets from the public that the internet had to be controlled.
In 1996 a U.S. lead advanced networking consortium was created to begin building Internet 2. Several years later the infrastructure has been built and a move to transition the public over have begun. As for the current internet, they hope it will fall apart with ISP’s focussing their resources on the new internet there wont be any money to continue to keep it going. Once complete, the elite will have their tight control over information once again.

I’m currently writing a paper on this and I’m trying to find information on this Internet2 thing, and this was helpful. I agree with you on all of this. Not only with the elite take over information again, this is basically a violation of our first amendment rights. filtering and approving what we have to say completely negates our freedom of speech…
Bastards…
maybe internet2 can speed up our slow connections!
